Lev Vygotsky', a Soviet psychologist, has propounded the "Socio-cultural Theory". This theory implies the idea that social interaction plays a crucial role in the learner's development. According to Vygotsky children learn through social interaction with peers. So, a language teacher should plan for pair and group work so that they can interact with peers.The Vygotskian classroom goes beyond independent discovery to promote assisted discovery. Teachers guide childrens learning, tailoring their interventions to each childs zone of proximal development.Assisted discovery is aided by peer collaboration, as children of varying abilities work in groups, teaching and helping one another.Peer collaboration is the educational approach of using groups to enhance learning through working together. It is a collaborative form of learning that is based on interaction, discussion, and knowledge sharing among peers.The teacher should use more skilled peers to support and guide the other students. Vygotsky felt that through joint activities with skilled peers, children come to master activities and think in ways that have meaning in their culture.Therefore, it is clear that in Vygotsky's theory, assisted discovery is aided by peer collaboration.
