Reading can be defined as the ability to make sense of written or printed words. The reader uses the symbols to activate the information from his memory and subsequently uses this information to arrive at a plausible interpretation of the written words.It is a multifaceted and layered process in which a reader by actively interacting with the text, tries to decode what has been encoded by the writer. Silent reading is one of the reading skills.Silent reading:It is a skilled process that refers to access meaning without voicing the words that help the students to make meaning by comprehending and reflecting.During silent reading, the students read the text properly and make mind maps which help them to understand the meaning effectively. It helps to develop vocabulary, reading efficiency, fluency, and accuracy, and also helps in developing the tendency of self-study.'Silent reading' is to be preferred because it enables one to read faster and comprehend the text more easily which saves energy of the students.Hence, it could be concluded that 'It removes hesitation and shyness of students' is not an advantage of silent reading.HintLoud reading removes the hesitation and shyness of students as it is a reading technique that lays emphasis on pronunciation skills and vocabulary building while reading a text in an audible voice. Engaging the students in loud reading improves their pronunciation of the students and also makes them attentive and focused.
