A.
Aesthetic emotions and imagination
B.
Rhythmical language or meter
C.
Use of figures of speech
D.
Grammatical structure

Solution:

Poetry is a form of literature in which thoughts and feelings are expressed through aesthetic qualities of language. Poetry is meant to be spoken and heard. In fact, for many centuries before poems were printed in books, people recited and sang them, and thus remembered them. Essential components of poetry include:?Rhythmical language /Rhyme: Taken together, all these sound repetitions create a pattern that becomes clear when we read the poem aloud. They also create a rhyme, as the last sounds are repeated e.g. blew-flew, free-sea, first-burst.Metre: Metre is another feature peculiar to poetry. You may have often felt that words and lines in poetry sound musical. How does this happen? Along with the patterns of sounds, there are patterns of lines in poetry. A line in poetry is different from a sentence. A break is made after a few syllables to make a line, and this pattern is continued over several lines. This is the metre, which is the length of each line in a poem.Aesthetic emotions and imagination: Poetry develops aesthetics which is a part of philosophy that includes the beauty and art of nature. It is a part of literary arts, that uses a combination of realistic thoughts and the imaginative ability of a poet.Use of figures of speech: Figures of speech represent the use of words in ways different from their ordinary, literal use, and are employed by creative writers to produce figurative meaning, thus lending verve, vivacity and force to their writings.Alliteration: We see the repetition of the first consonant in the beginning of the words e.g. /b/ in the breeze, blew; /f/ in foam, flew, furrow, followed, free; /s/ in the silent, sea. This is called alliteration.Consonance: Other than the first consonant in the words, there may be the repetition of other consonants, e.g./s/ and /t/ in first, burst, and silent. This is consonance.Assonance: Similarly, there is repetition of vowel sounds e.g. /ai/ in wild, white, silent; /i:/ in breeze, free, sea; /u:/ in blew, flew, etc. This is assonance. From the above points, we can infer that grammatical structure is not an essential component of poetry.
