The Teaching of English is concerned with the acquisition and development of the four-fold skills of- Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. One of the common listening and writing exercise which is usually practiced in school education is dictation.One of the positive features of dictation is that it involves the learner, who becomes actively involved with the language. Research has shown that performing well in a dictation activity requires an integrative knowledge of the phonological, syntactic, and semantic systems of a language. Dictation: It is basically used to improve the vocabulary and understanding level of students.The teacher dictates the ideas, facts, information, and new words while students listen and write them down in their own words.The students just have to listen carefully to their teacher that what he is dictating and have to write the correct response in their notebooks.It is being taken to know the current vocabulary level of the students and to improve their comprehensiveness which will help them to build their glossary.Hence, it could be concluded that while using dictation in his class II, Mr.Jagbir is improving his student's ability to listen and write.
