Solution:

Concept:A map is a representation or a drawing of the earths surface or a part of it drawn on a flat surface according to a scale. There are three components of Maps €œ distance, direction and symbol.Explanation:There are four major directions, North, South, East and West. They are called cardinal points. The other four intermediate directions are north-east (NE), southeast(SE), south-west (SW) and north-west (NW).We can locate any place more accurately with the help of these intermediate directions. We can find out the direction of a place with the help of a compass.Given: The Doctor is located at X.He first goes to A which is 800 m due east of X.Then, he goes to B which is 650 m due south of A.Then, again he goes to C which is 150 m due west of B.And, then finally he goes to Y which is 100 m due north of C. Hence, from the above diagram, it becomes clear that with respect to the hospital the correct direction of the doctor's house is north-west.
