The Mughal emperor Shahjahan was very fond of constructing new buildings and mosques. He ordered to build a huge fort on the bank of the river Yamuna. diwan-i-khas and diwan-i-am were build inside the fort. Shah Jahan's audience halls were specially constructed to resemble a mosque. The throne was placed in the direction faced by Muslims at prayer. The king had to seat on a high pedestal depicting that he was above everyone. This pedestal is also described as qibla. ?Hence, the idea of the king as a representative of God on earth was suggested by these architectural features. Additional Information Akbar's Agra fort also had the diwan-i-aam and the diwan-i-khas.
