Question Bank - Mathematics

Here's the question bank on all the mathematics topics.

The numbers 5, 7, 8, 10, 12, 13 and N are arranged in ascending order. If the mean of the numbers is equal to the median, the value of N is :

A.
16
B.
14
C.
25
D.
15

Solution:

Given:The numbers arranged in ascending order = 5, 7, 8, 10, 12, 13 and NFormula used:Mean = sum of the terms/Number of the termsWhen n is odd,Median = (n + 1)/2Calculation:The numbers arranged in ascending order = 5, 7, 8, 10, 12, 13 and NMean = (5 + 7 + 8 + 10 + 12 + 13 + N)/7? (55 + N)/7Now,Total number of terms = 7, which is oddSo, Median = (n + 1)/2? (7 + 1)/2 = 4The fourth term = 10Now,According to the given condition? (55 + N)/7 = 10? 55 + N = 70? N = (70 “ 55)? N = 15? The required value of N is 15
